Electrics in today’s commercial vehicles has to fulfil a number of important functions and leads to the fact that electric development is gaining more and more a bigger percentage of the complete vehicle development.

Major tasks in electrical engineering are establishing electric concepts and integration of complete vehicle and  systems like engine, transmission, retarder or ABS/ESC/ETC/EBC/etc..

ENGINEERING CENTER STEYR can support its customers also in electrical engineering as full service provider. Our expertise in electrical engineering enables us to develop electric systems considering special requirements like deep fording capability, typically necessary in heavy off road trucks and special vehicles.

Considering the different vehicle types, wheel bases and customer mounting procedures, all necessary interfaces, connecting points and wire routings are being developed in the most efficient way. The definition, selection and integration of electric components is done according to vehicle and customer requirements and in cooperation with component suppliers. Necessary tests for release are performed in the test department.

Prototype and serial documentation, such as circuit, connection, 2DHarness diagrams, plans of installation, assembly board plan, parts lists and cutting lists of the cable looms, can be provided using standard CAD tools or the internally developed software tool KABI.

We manufacture the prototype wire harnesses in our own workshop and integrate them into the vehicle for testing and final release.

The challenges of Electric Engineering we meet through the use of specialist tools chosen for each specific task: In 'Electric CAD', we produce draft designs for electrical schematics, define the dimensions and specification of electrical components and the accompanying automated documentation. In '3D Mechanical CAD', we design the routing for the wiring harness and 3D device installation.
